Smoothies are part of our daily routine. We started with your typical fruit-based recipe with lots of mixed berries, vanilla yogurt, milk and then added in a small handful of spinach.  Those are tasty but as our family continues to move towards more of a plant-based diet, we are trying to find ways to eliminate diary while adding in even more greens and proteins.  This green smoothie recipe does just that.  It's not only delicious but packed with nutrients, antioxidants and anti inflammatory ingredients.

Green Smoothie Recipe

*yields two 12 ounce smoothies

INGREDIENTS

1 Banana(frozen is preferred)

1 Cup of mango (frozen is preferred)

1 Lemon slice WITH the peel

4 Tablespoons of hemp seed

Large handful of spinach

3 Full stems of kale

1/2 inch slice of raw turmeric root

16 ounces of water

DIRECTIONS

1. Start with water at the bottom

2. Add in kale, spinach and hemp seeds

3. Top with banana, mango, lemon, spinach, kale and tumeric

4. Blend - Yes, this blender is pricey but we had broken 3 others that were less expensive.  The consistency of the smoothies is so much better and it also does much more; we often use it to make soups.  We use it every single day for our smoothies, so for us it was definitely worth the investment.

5. Pour and enjoy

Note: if not using frozen fruit you will want to add ice cubes.

EQUIPMENT

1. BLENDER - Yes, this blender is pricey but we had broken 3 others that were less expensive.  The consistency of the smoothies is so much better and it also does much more; we often use it to make soups.  We use it every single day for our smoothies, so for us it was definitely worth the investment.

2. MASON JARS- Mark and I take our smoothies to work so we pour them into mason jars with lids.

3. REUSABLE GLASS STRAWS- These are from CB2
